Some were swept away by the force of the water. One young elephant was carried all the way into a village far from its home - a heartbreaking sign of how powerful and deadly these floods were.

Now, the danger isn’t over. Elephant habitat has been destroyed. Restoration nurseries have been washed away. Ancient migration routes have been cut off by landslides. And herds forced out of flooded forest are dangerously close to villages - where conflict can turn deadly in an instant.
