They will also move out to the buffer areas such as the Manggatal River and Kilis area. The herd has also been observed in the WKS area (Eucalyptus plantation) and along the border of Bukit Tigapuluh National Park.

Our Elephant Conservation and Monitoring Units have been busy monitoring this group and also assisting in any human-elephant conflict situations. Forest fires have also been an issue lately for the elephants with an extended and very hot dry season.

Young males have been observed in the Cinta herd on multiple occasions when our team encountered them. Cinta’s group, comprising 20-30 individuals, boasts a well-rounded age structure, including juveniles, young bulls, and adults. The threats beyond ABT Block 1 have made this large group dominant in the ABT Block 1 area.

A notable event occurred in June 2023 when the Cinta group moved to the south side of the corridor road after a three-year absence (since 2020), albeit for a short duration of two weeks. This movement on the south side of the corridor road also led to the group splitting into smaller groups, which subsequently occupied the Manggatal River area on both the north and south sides of the corridor road. The movement, spanning the WCA-PT.LAJ, ABT Block 1, and PT.WKS areas, has given the Cinta group an extensive movement area covering 246 km².
