In late August, a precious young elephant calf was rescued by the Wildlife Ambulance team in the Aceh Jaya regency.
The little calf was found abandoned and alone. He had been wandering for five long days, desperately searching for safety.
Sadly, it’s believed that this young elephant was separated from his herd during human-elephant conflict. It’s most likely that villagers drove away a group of wild elephants to protect their farmlands, and in the chaos, the calf became lost and was left to fend for himself.
At just 3 to 4 months old, the tiny elephant was weak, dehydrated, and utterly exhausted. He was refusing food and had several scratches on his body. It was clear he needed immediate help, and the Wildlife Ambulance team responded quickly.
A Lifeline in the Wilderness
When the team arrived, they administered urgent treatment, starting with IV fluids and electrolytes to rehydrate him. Despite being in a fragile state, the calf showed signs of improvement as he was carefully transported to the Elephant Conservation Centre in Saree.
Though he initially refused to eat, the dedicated team didn’t give up on him. Slowly but surely, the calf’s strength began to return. He was offered liquid food supplements, which he gradually accepted, marking a huge milestone in his recovery.
A New Beginning
With ongoing care and attention, the calf is making steady progress. He’s being monitored closely, receiving the nutrition and medical support he needs to regain his full strength. Thanks to the generous donations from our supporters, this little elephant is receiving the best care possible.
Stay tuned for updates on how things progress for this little guy 🖤
