A wild elephant in the Aceh Jaya regency was recently treated after being found alone and injured.
This brave female elephant had been seen moving slowly near community farmland. She was wandering alone and in pain.
The local community alerted The Wildlife Ambulance. The team sprang into action to assess the situation and provide urgent care. The female elephant had suffered severe and painful injuries.
The team sedated the elephant to allow for a thorough examination. She had deep stabbing wounds around her abdomen, vulva, and right hind leg—injuries that were badly infected and had begun to turn gangrenous. The pain she must have been in was unimaginable.
It’s believed these injuries were caused by another elephant—likely in an aggressive encounter—using its tusks to strike her.
A Second Chance at Life
With careful and immediate attention, the Wildlife Ambulance team began treating her wounds. They also administered long-acting antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medication. This will prevent further infection and ease her suffering.
The courageous elephant is now on the road to recovery. And it's all thanks to the tireless work of the Wildlife Ambulance and the compassionate support of our donors! Your generosity has helped provide the medical care and resources needed to nurse this wild elephant back to health.
A Future Restored in the Wild
After receiving vital treatment, this beautiful elephant is expected to recover and return to her herd. Thanks to the team’s quick response and expert care, she now has a chance to continue her life in the wild, where she belongs.
Thank you for being a champion for elephants everywhere. 🖤
