Anna

From October 2024 to January 2025, Anna and her herd of 10–14 elephants stayed within the southern part of the WKS corridor, navigating through the forests and riverbanks of Muara Sekalo, Semambu, and the lush corridors of Sungai Pinang Belai and Sungai Sumay. These riverine areas provide some of the safest natural pathways for elephants in a landscape increasingly shaped by farms and human activity.

Anna's herd moving through the landscape

While other elephants like Indah, Ginting, and Quin made bold moves north during this period, Anna chose to remain in the south. Her group made steady use of a mosaic of secondary forest, riverside habitat, and farmland edges—constantly adapting to the pressures around them.

By February to March 2025, Anna’s herd gradually shifted east toward Sekutur Jaya, where human settlements are growing but key river corridors still offer safe passage. Around this time, Ginting and Indah returned from the north and reunited with Anna and Mutiara’s group. Together, they formed a large social unit of around 40 elephants, and field teams were thrilled to spot several young calves among them—an encouraging sign of successful breeding even in challenging conditions.

During this time, Anna’s expanded group ranged across an estimated 201 square kilometres, primarily relying on riverine corridors. These vital natural pathways help elephants move safely while reducing the chances of human-wildlife conflict.

Your support is making this possible. By adopting Anna, you’re helping protect these vital corridors and giving these precious elephants the space and safety they need to thrive. Thank you for standing with Anna and her growing family—you are truly part of their story.
